LIMITATION MACHT KREATIV

EXHIBITION AT STATION21 IN ZURICH, DECEMBER 2014

Studio Action draws attention on the essentials with their contribution to the Christmas exhibition in the station21 and wishes you a Merry Christmas and a promising 2015!

FICUS ELASTICA ROBUSTA

INSTALLATION SCHAU!FENSTER IN SACHSELN, SEPTEMBER - OCTOBER 2013

Studio Action explores in 'Ficus elastica Robusta' work-space and private-space. Initial point of this is the picture of an office with furniture, work utensils and personal belongings, which should make working more productive and focused. Although these private items are designed to make the office personal, it is just them who keep the artificiality upright. Studio Action confronts the schau! fenster with these objects - the Ficus as a popular office plant, a framed picture and the window for the view. The personal elements react to the private room. Private and work clash, fit together again.

UNTITLED (WOODEN OBJECT WITH VIDEO)

INSTALLATION SWISS ART AWARDS IN BASEL, JUNE 2013

Studio Action has developed a wooden object with video that calculates itself. In the middle of this room-high, consisting of different wood stripes object, is embedded a video screen. In this video, the future work products, effort and earnings of Action Studio will automatically be calculated. These calculations are based on formulas which refer to their key business data. Therefore, the wooden object is a spatial outcome of these evaluations and represents their promising future.

USE (UNEXPECTED SIDE EFFECTS)

INSTALLATION 1. TBILISI TRIENNIAL, OCTOBER - NOVEMBER 2012

Studio Action appears with USE - a collaboration for the F+F School for Art and Media Design Zurich with RELAX (chiarenza & hauser & co), René Fahrni, Chantal Romani, Miro Schawalder and Judith Weidmann - at the 1. Tbilisi Triennial in Georgia. The room-sized installation at the Centre of Contemporary Art in Tbilisi is dedicated to blank statements like that successful art schools produce successful artists, that the future belongs to the creative industries or that the world would be a better one, thanks to the increasing division of work in well-paid managers and underpaid, therefor 'happy because free' suppliers. At the same time USE confronts this eternal hierarchy with images about working at eye level as well as considerations on a desired school.

HORSE OF A DIFFERENT COLOR

INSTALLATION LOKAL-INT IN BIEL, APRIL 2012

Biel is the largest bilingual city in Switzerland, and the international business language is English. Based on these facts, Studio Action realized a multilingual installation at lokal-int. The project deals with illustrative expressions about work those are idiosyncratic for the respective language. The posters are painted by hand, and display selected idioms and visual substitutes as timeless statements. The integrated video shows animated text and graphic animations using a polyglot, humorous con-volute about the exhibition space and work.

CITY BAY BEAT

ART WITHIN ARCHITECTURE PROJECT,
UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCES AND ART LUCERNE, 2011

‹City Bay Beat› is an Art within Architecture Project for the new administration building of the University of Art and Design in Lucerne. The work consists of four monochrome images with song quotes and a sound installation inside the lift. The project takes up an original feature of work songs, the reflection on one's own actions. Four excerpts of specific pieces of contemporary music were selected that focus on work context. These lines, now part of the single-color images, provide humorous and critical approaches, which the employees and visitors encounter when passing by. Musician Mario Marchisella instrumentally interpreted the selected songs. These tracks are alternately played in the lift once per day using a random generator. The original sources of the text works are indicated, and therefore can be seen as an imitation of melody and rhythm.

FRISCHE SALATE

INTERVENTION MAX-BILL-PLATZ ZURICH, AUGUST 2011

Max-Bill-Platz is a square in Zurich-Oerlikon. Business owners around the square are trying to variegate the place, want to use it more actively. However, this is a difficult undertaking, because no transactions are allowed on the square. As a result, Studio Action temporarily offers the business owners, to use the installation ‹Leihgabe› – a piece of meadow - as advertising space. With this installation the artist group ganzblum wanted to draw the attention to the urbanization boom, which Neu-Oerlikon experienced in recent years. Studio Action occupies this piece of grassland as advertising space, and thus redefines the original function of the installation as agricultural zone.

TBD SONG

EXHIBITION KUNSTKASTEN IN WINTERTHUR, APRIL - JUNE 2011

The former industrial site Sulzer in Winterthur has been transformed into a mixed neighborhood that advertises the connection between work, home, education, shopping and leisure. Studio Action has written for the kunstkasten in the Sulzerareal the ‹tbd song› (to be defined song), which points to the fact that work in our society has a dominant role. With their song they are trying to motivate each individual to contribute within the society. With the invitation ‹define this place!› they call up residents and visitors, and to divide the song, it is duplicated by their copier. However, the copies may not be taken along and are being collected inside the kunstkasten during the exhibition.

POINT OF VIEW

PRIZEWINNING WORK AT SWISS ART AWARDS IN BASEL, JUNE 2010

‹Point of View› shows complex office environments from scenographic structures, playfully improvised objects, photographs and drawings. Against this setting, the artists develop a subtle game with humorous, evocative and ambiguous scenes, which are reminiscent of hierarchies and role-playing world of work.

GUIDED TOUR

INTERACTION AT SCHLOSSPARK IN WÄDENSWIL, JULY 2009

Studio Action takes part in the interaction ‹Unter Bäumen› at the Schlosspark in Wädenswil. At the same time, two guided tours are taking place through the park. Every group follows a leader with a «follow me» sign. During the excursion, the leading ones are silently pointing at various objects in the park. The action ends as the two groups meets, and where the artists quit their leadership, by placing the signs in the ground.

THE WORK SPEAKS FOR ITSELF

INTERACTION AT STATION 21 IN ZURICH, MAY 2009
IN COLLABORATION WITH EVA MOLINE

In May 2009, Anja Moers, Eva Moline and Silvia Popp invited to a one-time action at station 21 in Zurich. While the artists were sitting in an adjoining room at a round table to discuss the action, their discussions were transferred by wireless microphones to three voice speaker in the exhibition room. There the visitors could listen to the discussions while eating and drinking. After three hours, the artists ended the action by switching off their microphones.

QUESTIONNAIRE

QUESTIONNAIRE FOR SWISS ART AWARDS 2009

In 2009 Studio Action responded to the new rule of the Swiss Art Awards that demanded the portfolio submission as PDF file with immediate effect. Each jury member of the Swiss Art Awards 2009 received an online questionnaire in form of a PDF, with predefined criteria for art. If the artists had participated at the exhibition, the questionnaires would have been analyzed and each juror would have received a customized work of art.
